Clear Up Your Writing by Avoiding These Mistakes

  2. Kind of or sort of. Hanging with friends, these words are fine. In formal writing, use somewhat, rather, or slightly.
  3. Each and every A problem for the Department of Redundancy Department. Just use one or the other.
  4. Suppose to, use to. Do not forget the hard d at the end of these words, though they may appear silent in speech. "We used to play baseball" or "We were supposed to autograph baseball cards."

  8. Being that or being as These are poor substitutes for the standard because.
