Get Your Student Ready to Go Back to School Without the Stress

As much as we don't like to imagine it, summer vacation must come to an end. For student and parents, this means that it’s now time to start thinking about the new school year ahead. To help you get started with your back-to-school shopping, The Tutoring Center, Plano TX has some tips to share.

Nothing Beats a List

Something as simple as a list can save you a lot of time and frustration when it comes time for your back-to-school shopping. Instead of being the parent who needs to make multiple trips back and forth to the store because they either bought the incorrect item or continued to forget items, make a list. Start by sitting down with your students and asking them to think about their classes and what they expect will happen. As they think about how an average class will be, ask them to write down any items they imagine themselves using. For example, a math class may require measuring tools or a special calculator while a writing class may require a range of colored markers.

Make Your Master List

Now that you have their lists, compile all of them into one master list for yourself. As you add each item, look for ways that you can save money by purchasing larger amounts. For example, if each of the students in your home wrote that they each needed to have their favorite color notebook otherwise their life would be over, just get them all the same color and teach them a lesson on both saving money and realizing that their notebook isn’t the end of the world.

Make It a Lesson

Just as you will look for your own ways to save money and take advantage of sales and coupons, take this year as an opportunity to introduce the activity to your children. After all, this is something that they will need to do on their own once they leave for college. Give them a copy of your master list and a budget and see what they can do. This is a great way to keep their basic math brains activated and can teach them valuable lessons.
